Description
Late at night, when the humans are safely asleep in their beds, the Bolladon come out to enjoy the healing waters at Balneae.
==AMY’S NOTES==
I’d been wanting to do more architectural renders of Jack Tomalin’s amazing structures, and I also wanted to do a scene with the Bolladon rock creature, and the two ideas merged into this. I started out doing this scene in bright sunlight, but I always get seduced into doing night scenes b/c the lighting is so much more fun!
This is the last of the backlog of scenes I made in July, and I haven’t made any since then, but I’m hoping my motivation returns soon!
Rendered in July 2022 using Firefly in Poser Pro 11.3 for Mac at 3200 × 1800 pixels. DepthCue atmosphere enabled. Postwork in ON1 Effects. View full size on my blog.

Menacung atmosphere!

Very nicely done!! This render immediately conjures to mind the motions and sounds of these creatures as they take the waters of healing, a rare feat for still imagery!

Thanks so much for the comment! As soon as I read it, I too could hear the gentle snuffling sounds of the creatures, along with the rippling of water as they slowly made their way into the pool! Thanks for adding that to the experience of the image :-)

Thanks so much for the comment! I'm pleased with how well the Depth Cue atmosphere worked out for this scene (after lots of trial and error to get the mist to settle at the right distance).

Great lighting and foggy atmosphere!

Thanks so much for the comment! I don't use the Depth Cue atmosphere often b/c it can be fiddly, but when it works, it really works :-)

Your lighting & the atmosphere is amazing! If you can do work that is this impressive, I hope your muse will inspire you to do more soon!

Thank you so much for the kind comments :-) I enjoyed putting this one together as it drew on several of my strengths with Poser (including lighting and atmosphere). I have plenty of ideas for more scenes (thought not as dramatic as this one), but some family matters as well as a case of severe eye strain have forced me to take a break for a while. Hope to return to it soon!

Absolutely beautiful setting. Great lighting and atmosphere

And who knows the ancient mysteries of the exotic and most often misunderstood Bolladons? Where they come from and how they originated! Mysteries steeped in legend and superstitions! Stories told and retold and now long forgotten? Perhaps their plight will never be revealed unless that certain magical formula of coincidences comes together again and breaks them out of their cursed spell. Well the new chapter ever begin? Will there ever be hope for the return of the true Ballodons?
A most excellent image my great and wonderful friend! Many fine kudos and praises from me to you!!!! Have a great day!

You have indeed captured the mystery of the misunderstood Bolladons! Thanks for the insightful and enjoyable comment :-)

This is probably the best image I've ever seen with the Bolladon figure. The lighting and the atmosphere really give a gentle vibe to these critters.

Aw, thanks! I love interesting creature figures and finding "non typical" ways to show them!

Really nice overall feel! The depth cue atmosphere is surprisingly effective. I'm struggling with volumetric fog just now and I always love to see it done well. Thanks for sharing, Amy! I very much enjoyed viewing! <3

Great nocturnal scene. Love the moody, mysterious feel created by the volumetric lighting and the ancient-looking architecture. The water is nicely rendered, too. Hope those two creatures in the water aren't dangerous to humans!

I don't think I have ever seen Dinoraul's beasties looking so playful. Awesome job :-)

Nice work on the lighting and foggy atmosphere. And fun story to go with the image

Large scary critters need their R & R too, and I love the wonderful torchlight and fog glow, that shows up the architecture in a way that feels both tender and monumental. I think the thing I like so much about your work is the way it strikes multiple notes that usually aren't thought of together, and does it so memorably.

Thanks so much for commenting on my art! I've missed working with Poser over the last year, but other things got in the way. I hope to return to it, and comments like yours are a definite inspiration!
