I'm not familiar with the source material, but this is a neat looking scene! I love how satisfied she looks, and how grungy!
By Depth Cue do you mean that you had the Depth Cue atmosphere enabled (on the Atmosphere material node) or that you enabled Depth of Field (on the camera and render settings)? Depth Cue atmosphere can add lighter or darker color further back (or fog/mist, if you use various node setups), but it doesn't really do blur like DOF does. You can enhance it, as well as DOF, by including Z depth pass in the render. I only use Firefly, so I don't know if that option is also available for Superfly, but it's handy to have in Photoshop for various purposes, including using it as a lens blur mask.

I had both; Depth Cue atmosphere on the Atmosphere material node PLUS I enabled Depth of Field in the SuperFly render settings (I do not know about on the camera settings, I will have to take a closer look at that). I was told "SuperFly ignores DOF", but mine did not for it did Blur everything beyond and before the Point of Focus (in this case La Femme's face).
I have not yet gotten a handle on setting up the Fog/Mist settings, all I get is fog/mist from point of camera to beyond; as if a Foggy Day rather then any real 'Depth'.
And yes, I do use the Z depth pass however I did not use it in this one, I have in the past. For this one I used a Mask from a "Render Background Transparent" and removed the background plane. From there I made two renders, one with and one without DOF. I used the mask to separate from the Horse, Cougar, and La Femme and did my blending of No-Depth and Depth. Then tweaked my light/darkness on two layers beyond that I call Middle and Background.
Yes, I have blended many layers at a time in some of my renders, as many as 10 or more. In older versions of Poser that was the only way to get so many characters into a single scene but P11 and P12 I have not had much trouble there...the previous one with La Femme, L'Homme, Mike4, and a hand full of horses plus others I did all in one but older versions of Poser I would have had to break it down into at least three or four each with specific figures and then assemble in Photoshop.
Thanks for the info, I will have to take a closer look at the fog/mist settings.....and why my P12 is blurring DOF when we are told it won't - I don't know, but I won't tell it if you don't!! ;)
