Description
Captain's Log: September 2nd
What to explore next I asked of the crew. ""Trees, trees" they called out. My eyes immediately went to crew member Willis. Willis was the person we always called upon to scale the masts of the ship. We all teasingly told him he must be part monkey. Since he was not afraid of height and could climb so expertly, he was the logical person to take with us. With a huge grin on his face, he quickly agreed to go.
As soon as it was light enough to see, James, Willis and I set out. We knew we would have to go farther inland as there are not many trees along the shore. Since we might be gone several hours, we took food and several canteens of water.
Climbing some of the trees proved to be next to impossible even for brave Willis. Tired and bearing lots of scrapes, we decided we would observe one more tree and then call it a day. The last tree of interest we spied appeared to have a dwelling of some sort at the base. This both intrigued us and frightened us. It appears we had mistakenly thought we were alone on the island; perhaps we were not.
We did not take time to explore this dwelling, instead we hurriedly went back to camp to discuss what to do next.

That last tree they discovered sure puts a different slant on things! Some of those trees, especially the second, looks like it could eat them. :(
