Description

_________________________________________ The Chemin du Roy The Chemin du Roy is the first road built in New France connecting several municipalities. It is the longest road built in North America over such a great distance and this, from the beginning of its construction in the 1660s, until more than a hundred years after the beginning of its construction. The first section was opened in the 1660s and linked Cap Tourmente on the Côte-de-Beaupré to Cap-Rouge (west of Quebec; passing through Old Quebec). In 1999 it was officially announced as one of the main tourist routes in Quebec. It crosses the tourist regions of the Capitale-Nationale (including Côte-de-Beaupré), the regions of Mauricie and Lanaudière. It runs along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, between Montreal and Quebec, passing through Trois-Rivières. It extends largely on the route of the old historic road which today more or less corresponds to the current route 138. This tourist route is marked with welcome signs, road signs (blue) and interpretive panels. _____________________________________________________
