Description

(P.I.B.) Projected Image Backgrounds JohnnyM these scenes were all created in 2018 except for one in early 2019. Like a collage the images were projected next to each other and some on top of each other with some brighter than others. You of course need to adjust the size of the beams and falloff on some of them. The last three scenes I used atmospheric option to create the light beams from the tracked vehicle, the blue/green light beam on the solder in the tank, and the light beam on the small island in the elven cave scene. I have only been able to get these beams of light to work in Firefly not Superfly. Some PNGs were used for water splash, tank gun barrel smoke and ship smokestack. The elven scene I made the ground reflective and you can see the cave entrance reflected in the water. The scene with the martian tripod and tank the buildings are a PNG and the alien character, the middle martion tripod vehicle is a projection as well as the spitfire planes. Some scenes I added ground, rocks, trees and tanks. JohnnyM if you are going to use image projections in any of your future projects, I hope these images will give you some ideas. This is an amazing presentation and I am so appreciative of the time it took you to do this my friend! You have my apologies for not seeing this sooner. I try to visit this site as often as I can, yet sometimes I miss a few art works from my friends. I noticed you have another animation and I will head to view that one as soon as I am done admiring your talented and skilled work with projected images.

The images you have here are all fantastic and such a fine example of a way to do things that is often not taught by many in the 3D world. I have never used this awesome technique your have used here with projected images. I don't really use poser in the ways that so many talented artist such as yourself use it. I usually use Poser to animate my characters and then after I am done animating the characters, I then usually import them into 3dsMax, and it is there where I do everything else.

I am exited to try this technique in 3dsMax to see if it works just as well as you have gotten it to work with Poser. I am going to have to try it and I will let you know if I was successful in doing so by site mail. I thank you so much for doing this tutorial in how you utilize this very effective method...it can really be a time saver for creating great looking scenes like the ones you have done above. Enjoy the holidays with family and friends! :-)

Thanks for your comment: The image projection does save time on creating unusual backgrounds. Hope it has given you some idea's, which was my intent. My first 3D modeling and animation software was Lightwave in 2000, it took a while to get an idea how to even use the program. Very little to no tutorials.

I have also used 3D Studio Max 4 then Max 9. Been years since I have used it. I did create an F16 fighter plane model in 3D Max and Hexagon at the same time. I would work on the model in Hexagon for a few hours then see if I could do the same in 3D max, back and forth with both programs open at the same time. They both looked identical even though the tools used were in different places. I will have to look and see if I still have them somewhere.

I did create an animation in 3D Max more than 10 years ago with an antique computer. I had a book, and it took me 6 months to create the models and to complete the 69 second animation. I used Bryce to create an animated background and learned how to do motion tracking and camera matching to make the background track with the foreground, that was cool. Also, did a lot of Max scripting to program the keyboard arrow keys to control the track vehicle model. I learned some programming in school and the book was wrong, so I had to debug the program to get it to work. Long story short. I wanted to go to school to learn professional animation but that did not work out, life got in the way.

I saved the animation as low resolution 320x240 config to fit it on a floppy. lol If you go to my gallery, you can find the 3D Max commercial animation I made many years ago with no sound.
