In 1982 I heard Kid Creole & The Coconuts for the first time. At that time we had a TV format – Rockpalast - in Germany that presented new bands and other music groups on a grand scale. For that time this music show was revolutionary. But it was also the bands presented there that were revolutionary and brought a breath of fresh air into the German music scene. Kid Creole & The Coconuts was a band in the style of the big bands. The music was presented with show and revue elements. But I especially liked the Coconuts, three background singers and dancers with a new spectacular dance style that I had not seen before at that time. Sometime this year I rediscovered the band on Youtube. The only one who was still in the band from back then is August Darnell aka Kid Creole, a founding member of the band. He is now 72 years old, but has not lost his musical style. The Coconuts, however, have all been replaced over the years. This is not surprising since the way they dance is very exhausting. Since I wanted to do something different for a change, I took a scene from a 2019 video as a template for a new image. I named it "Don't Take My Coconuts" according to the music title. Since I couldn't properly represent the dynamics of the dance, of the three ladies, in 3D I have attached a link to the video. There you can make yourselves a picture of the kind of the dance. Especially I want to point out one dancer, Sarah McGrath, on the left side of the picture. She has been dancing with the Coconuts for twenty years. A respectable accomplishment.
