Description

.... almost like a mushroom, about 8 feet up on this swamp oak ... tempted to take it apart for analysis, but hopefully I will get some intelligent feedback

If not some form of fungi, could it be a wasp or bee nest?
Wasps can build mushroom like nests. My Grandmother had one under the floor of her spare room many years ago.

I will be watching it, but it doesn't appear to be occupied.

About the size of a soccer ball, it doesn't seem to have a common fungi shape, but the texture appears similar.

I received a positive reply from another network, and the answer seems to be "Lion's Mane Mushroom", supposedly edible, with many side benefits.

After reviewing some available documentation and having sampled Honey Mushrooms, purging one's digestive system certainly makes sense for many medicinal "cures" :)
