Retired professional full-time portrait artist and engineer (degrees in mathematics, engineering and photography... go figure).
If you read bios, and sometimes revisit them, you'll know in 2018 I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis. Then, in 2020, a new neurologist (because I moved across country) diagnosed me as having Parkinson's. Then, after some serious issues with jerking movements, she sent me to a movement specialist, and NOW this new neurologist who specializes in movement disorders has said I don't have MG, MS, ALS, Parkinson's, or any other host of neuromuscular diseases. She classified the movements as non-essential tremors, and said, "My hardware is over loading my software." That's the 2022 diagnosis.
2023 Update - It turns out that I have a half-dozen discs in my spine that are collapsing. Thus, Degenerative Disc Disease, or DDD for short. I never knew that DDD could cause tremors (well, the pain causes them) and stuff like that. Now I go to physical therapy 4 days a week to hopefully avoid spinal surgery.
I've got high hopes and remain positive.
I started doing 3D renders in DAZ and Poser started when I first became sick at the start of 2018. It is a distraction from my symptoms, and I'm not under any pressure or deadlines to get things done. Even this is difficult on some days, but I can always stop temporarily to get some rest. In July, 2020, my wife and I moved across country to be closer to children and grandchildren.
If I'm not cooking or preparing for a meal, I'm rendering. Art and food are my passions.
I used to enjoy travel, bicycling, cooking (which I can still do in short bursts), photography (again, in short bursts), hiking and painting (which I now do digitally). I'm determined to do something with my time even if my strength is greatly limited.
Just prior to getting sick I drove ALL of Route 66. I've been using some of the photos from that trip and adding 3D characters to them. You can see them in my Route 66 gallery here on Renderosity. You can actually follow the story at Route66Photographers.com. It's a fictional story about my travels with a rambunctious young lady named Charly.
My wife is my biggest supporter. She helps me come up with ideas to render and paint.

1) Everyone can teach you something regardless of age or education.
2) When you're down, a child's smile will always lift you up.
3) Keep God's commandments, as best you can, but when you can't, repent quickly.
4) Read your scriptures daily, but pray all the time.
5) Love everyone, but don't expect anything from them in return.

Very beautiful. I'm following your experiences creating AI images with interest.

Thanks. I'm still learning, but I love sharing my discoveries (both in art form and writing about what I have learned.)

Although I am not at all a "fan" of AI, nor the current fad with it here or on other Art sites, I do agree with what you have stated here, DB. I played a bit with MidJourney, until the blasted thing wanted money. And if it didn't, I'd certainly play with it for things like backgrounds, and as you said, inspiration.
What bugs the hell out of me is... I will sometimes spend several DAYS trying to get everything just right; the way I saw it in my mind's eye. I'm currently using 3 different versions of Poser (P-12, P-11, PP2014) and of course I do have the CC subscription for Photoshop. And I will soon (hopefully) have DAZ operational again.
Then to see something that was generated in a few minutes, by typing in a bunch of "prompt" words (which ANYONE can do) elevated to the top of the 'trending' list in a couple hours is both discouraging and annoying. It's a big part of the reason I've not been very active here, recently. Having said that, my posts generally do pretty well here, but the TREND I'm seeing, is not encouraging. Nor is the concept that anything I create / post has now become fair game for any AI app to harvest my work - or part of it - if someone types "redhead" or any combination of the letters 'T,' 'N,' or 'A' into the AI app, then claim the work as "theirs."
Hence, I lift my cup of coffee in a salute to the Library of Congress' decision! It is what it is, indeed!
I'd love to see you duplicate this lovely lady's head / face in DAZ! 👍

Yeah, the claiming the results of Ai is one of those things that's a real iffy and touchy subject in the art community. And, while some people type a few prompt words and end up with something amazing, that is the exception and not the norm.
It does require some work learning to master AI, but the real test is seeing the results for what they are (and mostly aren't). I got sucked down the Ai rabbit hole this morning, but I learned something as a result about gaining better control over Ai. As a result, I think we'll start to see there will be those who can, with a large degree of consistency, create a prompt-word "book" that gives them consistent results. And, to that extent, I think those folks will deserve some credit for learning how to manipulate the beast. (Yes, Ai is a BEAST.)
And, if you're spending several days trying to get something right, I'd say it's because you're using Adobe products. LOL (I abandoned Adobe when they went to the cloud model. I haven't looked back. When I had my studio I would get someone asking me, "What version of Photoshop do you use?" I'd look them square in the eye and with a stern look I'd say, "I don't."
But, seriously, if you're skilled in Photoshop and that's where you feel comfortable, that's what you should use. Running a studio with several licenses it didn't make financial/tax sense. (i.e. CC subscription is an expense. A perpetual license is an asset and carries with it tax benefits... according to my CPA at the time.)
