Render sky and terrain seperatly; take the same gamma as for this pic for the sky and a higher one for the terrain Put the both pictures together with a simple program like paint and do some AA But maybe this will look a bit unreal, cause of the different gammas. Check it out gl!

Anyone has ever tried to sur-impose two pictures of the same scene with different exposures and play with transparencies of the layers? You can apply as much light as you want without doing many render. I think I'll try it!

Snow is better this way, but maybe you should also change the slope a little on the snowlayer (so that the snow does not stick to much to the vertical sides of the terrain).
