Buffalo - the American Bison. Large, placid unless riled. Powerful animals that are kind of cute in their way. I'm glad they survived previous extinctions, including a near-successful one by us. We may not have 1000+ year old ruins here in the good old USA but we've got natural beauty and purple-mountains-majesty in spades, including these.

Yes, it is good that they survived. :) Powerful, but usually calm creatures
