Description

Touchdown! This image is from my continuing series about the colonization and terraforming of the planet Mars. The picture shows the Mars Lander USS Virginia right before touch down at Mars colony Jamestown1. Earlier today I posted a picture showing 35 thumbnails of images that I had just posted at my website. This is just the tip of the iceberg. I believe for every image I post I have at least 7 to 10 images dealing with the same subject that never get posted. This image was created this past September and at that time I just never got around to finishing it in postwork. I hope to finally finish some of the images that were created during the past year but never got posted do to the fact that some touchup was needed prior to posting the final. Some of these images took upward of 5 to 6 days to render. I hope that you enjoy the effort and that you will continue to indulge me by being so supportive of my work. I hope to try some different thing this year (I just might surprise you). Thanks again for looking and commenting on my work. David ;-)

Nice Pic ... But for landing in mars it would be more probable using wings or parachutes for landing even if the athmosphere is very thin. Any kind of propulsion aided landing would be a great waste of energy, even if the fuel is later produced localy for takeoff eg, the fuel for landing on the planet would have to be produced earthside and lifted into orbit and that costs money :)

You always do such super space hardware, it's nice to see it in action (even wasting fuel;-). I wish the US gov't would start making your pics a reality instead of wasting money on less noble pursuits!

The textures and POV are excellent. The martian rocks are perfect.

Hey it really does look like a martian landscape. Great terrain and the spaceship is modelled beautifully.
