Too many years ago, my paternal aunt recalled being at an open-air concert of classical music in Montréal during the late summer of 1944. She remembered the music being abruptly stopped; a man emerged from the wings of the stage and threaded his way through the seated musicians. He spoke briefly to the conductor who immediately directed him to the center of the stage. There, he announced that Allied forces had liberated Paris. The audience roared and the orchestra put aside the night's program to play La Marseillaise. Every member of the audience rose to his or her feet and those who knew it sang the song with the rapture of children. She recalled it as one of the most electrifying moments of her life.
Thanks for your render. It reminded me of my favourite aunt who passed away 15 years ago of Alzheimer's. She was the only sane woman in my entire family.

Thank you for sharing your aunts story, a wonderful memory of the liberation of Paris. All stories of the great war should not be forgotten.

The green sign "toutes directions" didn't exist in 1944 !
