Description
If you've ever seen the old Superfriends cartoon, you'll know that it was a lesser version of the Justice League of America comics. It did have a few good ideas, though. One was "Secret Origins of the Superfriends" in which the Legion of Doom went back in time to prevent Superman, Green Lantern and Wonder Woman from becoming heroes. Naturally, it being a Saturday morning cartoon, it was dumbed down and the ramifications of such a change to their world was not explored.
This is my interpretation of "What If?"
Batman, Robin, Aquaman and The Flash's histories were not changed. The others were either changed slightly or, drastically.
Wonder Woman
Priscilla Rich was an actress whose jealousy of The Amazing Amazon caused her to become The Cheeta. However, after she bested Diana in the Amazon trials (With the Legion of Doom's help) Priscilla was awarded the title and role of Wonder Woman, her mind slipping into the new persona as if it were her destiny.
Priscilla eluded her former team-mates, going to "man's world" to fight dictators, criminals and others who threatened world peace. Sadly, she lacked Amazonian strength and healing magic, getting killed after several years of faithful service. Princess Diana left Paradise Island to retrieve her body for an Amazon funeral and would return because of the threat of the demon Trigon, later serveing her sisters as a diplomat, often aided by her adopted sister, Donna Troy, AKA: Wondergirl.
Green Lantern
Luthor had taken the power ring and battery from Abin Sur, preventing a Green Lantern from being recruited on Earth. Sinestro then claimed the ring as a back-up to his yellow power ring. A pair of agents from the Green Lantern corps later came to take it back. It's assumed that they passed it on to someone who didn't live on Earth.
Lex Luthor
There was no Superboy whose carelessness caused the loss of Lex's hair and the destruction of the artificial life the genius had made. In fact, without the labortory Superboy had built for him, the artificial life did not come to be either!
Young Luthor was the picture of the scientific genius, tinkering away in his garage/laboratory, his patents and discoveries keeping his parents and sister Lena economically comfortable. He was also a bit of a dreamer and devoured old science fiction movies and TV shows, trying to make the fictional science a reality. His most memorable day was when John Kent sold the Luthors a wrecked rocket ship. The parts were taken to Metropolis when the Luthors decided that Smallville was just a little TOO small for their growing investments and their science-hungry son.
Rocketman (Clark Kent, Kal El)
It amused the Legion of Doom to turn the mighty Superman into a mere mortal by means of gold krytonite so that he would live on Earth and watch helplessly as the villains ran rampant.
Kal was found by Mary and John Kent, a childless couple for whom the "space child" was a godsend. Inventing a cover story, they adopted and raised him to believe in "truth and justice" which was "the American way" they told the boy. Named after Mrs. Kent's maiden name, Clark excelled in school sports and became life-long friends with Lex Luthor. Clark grew to manhood, wanting little more than to be a farmer like his adopted father, but an accident claimed his parents. Heartbroken, Clark sold everything, moving to Metropolis City where he found work with his old friend, Lex.
But fate would not allow a quiet, normal life for these two. Crime and corruption threatened the people of their new home and Luthor took inspiration from an old movie serial; encouraging Clark to don the "thruster pack" he had made from the alien rocket that had carried Clark to Earth and defend the city as ROCKETMAN!
"Rocketman" (Having been born on a planet with heavier gravity and atmosphere) was about twice as strong and tough as an Earth man; this helped him not only in his fight against crime, but also in the rescue and "helping people" work which he thought was more important. This brought him to the attention of one Lois Lane who soon became a valuable ally, providing research, information and often just being another pair of eyes and ears among public figures. Their working relations blossomed into something more and Lois and Clark were married in a double wedding with Lex Luthor, who married his high school sweetheart Lana Lang, who had grown up to be a noted archeologist.
The two women would sometimes aid the Justice League of America with information or, by joining them on a mission.
Star Sapphire (Carol Ferris)
The Ferris family has always been industrious; didn't an ancestor invent the "Ferris Wheel"? Carol's grandfather had expanded his assembly plant during twenties to manufacture other companies' aircraft and in the fifties, had begun to build their own designs. The company was passed on to her father, Carl Ferris and Carol was educated in it's operation so that she would be able to take over when the time came. One of Ferris Aircraft's services was restoring old planes for museums, movies and re-enactors. It was one of these old warbirds, an F-86 "Saber Dog", that Carol would adopt as her own.
While flying over the Mohave desert, the plane was brought down by the "Zamarons", a group of women from another planet. They explained to the startled woman that their queen had died, and it was tradition to replace her with someone who looked exactly like her! Miss Ferris admitted later that she was tempted by the thought of learning the secrets of the aliens' inter-steller spacecraft and also by the power of the star sapphire they offered as an incentive. However, Carol couldn't bear being parted from her friends and family and made a counteroffer: she would use the gem to help them find a more suitable replacement. The women agreed and once they had found a willing candidate in France, the grateful Zamarons gave Carol the sapphire as a reward. Naming her new identity "Star Sapphire" after the gem, Carol did her best to make good use of the alien sapphire, while making friends with other super beings along the way.
One day, Star Sapphire spotted a rocket falling to Earth...
Supergirl (Linda Lee, Kara Zor-El)
Argo City was doomed. It was only a matter of "when?" Although it had seemed "lucky" when it survived the destruction of Krypton by the city's construction and having been built on firm, "planet quake-proof" ground, they were the only survivors of their people, protected by a thick dome, surrounded by a dead planet. There were several ways they could have met their end: ironically, it was fragments from their home planet, following their orbit around the sun that finally caught up with them and fell on the unfortunate people. Only one was saved by a hastily made rocket, too small to carry anyone else.
When Star Sapphire had torn the hatch away from the strangely designed rocket, the last thing she expected to find was a girl no more than fifteen years old! Kara tearfully told her tale and Carol comforted her, promising to give her a home and a family. Carol was as good as her word and the girl soon came to consider the woman her "big sister". Kara had also named herself "Linda Lee" after looking through an American history book for a suitable sir name. It was odd, but she insisted that a picture of the Confederate general in his younger days looked like her Kryptonian father.
Linda was introduced to Carol's superhero acquaintances, and it was through the girl that Clark Kent discovered his true origins! His lack of superpowers puzzled Doctor Luthor until he was able to make a more though examination of the various forms of kryptonite.
