Ouch! definitely stay away from them. Great capture.

Very brave you got that close to them then. And sorry you had to experience that! Nice photo though (just don't disturb, right?)

You've captured them fantastic, Richard, so sorry for so many on this beautiful rose. The Heteroptera bugs, there are so many different species of them, about 40,000, I recognize this kind we have them too, also on our attic. I just take them and throw them out. I'm not afraid of them but they make such a idiot noise.

some are dangerous to humans. the insect spray for roses killed them all

Looks like a busy place here. Quite a cool shot, Richard!
I got nailed by one of those when I was a kid - I thought I was going to die! I remember for years after that, I'd kill one whenever I saw one.

I was painting an older home, and the owner was keeping firewood close to his house(big mistake). After a while I seen the yellow jackets. one large tree limb was full of them. I was spraying with a can spray. one came out and bit me on my finger.
a good solution to wasp bites is a paste made with baking soda and vinegar. it helps to get rid of the pain. I always kept both in my former van. I was on my way to work in Okla. City. while I was getting gasoline a huge bumble bee lit on my neck. luckily, I had just bought a cold can of soda pop. I took one drink and held the can to my hand. I had knocked it off without knowing what it was. it bit my hand

take vinegar and baking soda and make a paste. apply to the bite. it helps get rid of the pain. I always carried some in my former van. I think it neutralizes the poison that they inject

Great capture!

Those yellow jackets sure sound (and look) nasty but I guess they're as much a part of Nature as the rose, which looks like it's seen better days...
Never encountered any of those critters in my life (I live in Singapore). And from what you said about them, I sure hope never to encounter any either!
