Description
This single successful clone from the robots cloning experiments is slowly gaining more consciousness
with each passing day. The other clones in the tanks didn't survive the resuscitation sequence the
two robots had initiated after reviving the first male clone. They are beginning to believe they got
very lucky with this single clone. These humans are the robots first attempts at cloning a species
from dna samples.
To prevent damage this male clone's tender body, they have provided clothing for him to wear. Finally
after a few weeks of observation with very little activity by the male clone, he seems to awaken with
a look of recognition in his eyes. He even utters gutteral sounds at first. Then slowly, he begins to
form intelligible words and form sentences.
The robots take the male clone into another room and sit him down and begin to listen to him. He seems
to be confused and agitated!
'What are you doing to me? I demand to seem my crew! Where are they? What have you done with them?'
he almost screams at them.
Erasmus, the little yellow robot, responds, 'We don't have your crew. In fact, as far as we know, you
don't have a crew.'
'What do you mean, I don't have a crew. I'm the captain of my ship! I had at least a compliment of 50
crew on my spaceship. The last thing I remember is trying to dodge a super nova and getting caught in
the blast. We were blown way off course and tried to land on this desolate looking planet. My memory
is cloudy here, but I think we lost control of our ship as we tried to land. I don't remember anything
after that. So, let me ask again, what am I doing here and what have you done with my crew?'
'I can only tell you what I know, captain, if that is what you are. We are a very remote outpost of
the Valeery empire. In fact, this outpost is so far from our main planet, we rarely every hear of
news from there. We have been on this planet for 2,723 years, 45 days and 16 minutes to be exact.
Recently, we discoverd a derelict spaceship buried in the sands of one of our vast deserts. We were
curious about its contents and so excavated into it just far enough to find what we believe to be
the main bridge of the ship. That is where we found the few remains of ten individuals, one of which
was where we got the dna from to recreate you. You are so far our only successful clone experiment.
The other three we tried cloning were failures.'
The captain can't believe what he is hearing. He questions Erasmus more but gets very little more
information from him.
'You see,' say Erasmus finally, 'we didn't know what to expect from this experiment. We have been so
far away from our central command, I'm afraid they may have forgotten about us. We have spent many
years doing nothing but waiting for a signal to come to give our presence on this planet some meaning.
So when we stumbled onto the remains of the spaceship, we decided to give ourselve some meaning and
try to clone whatever it was that had occupied the spaceship. I'm sure the ship has been buried
there for several thousand years!'
At those words, the captain faints!
Thank you for taking a peek! Your support is greatly appreciated!

I think I'd faint, too! Poor guy! He needs some love and comfort! If I could beam myself there, I would!

He's been a long, long time rather dead ...
Radar_rad-dude
Is it true about our DNA recording our lives? Hmmm! I've wondered about that here with this story! Thanks for the comment! Greatly appreciated!

he looks hawt with his clothes too! ^^ - cool scene. and harsh awakening for him, to hear you're a clone is already hard, but cloned from the remains of someone, i'd be shocked too!
hmm i think you'd have that kind of scene IF they ver manage to wake up people from cryogenics, since they're still alive and themselves. but in dna you might also have some kind of basic memory, like instinct, or a vague feeling of familiarity in similar situations/places maybe? might depend which cells you clone, like brain or toe ^^

The story explains it nicely, but when I first read, "What am I doing here?" and saw his clothes, my first thought was, "Join a boy band?"

the bots wants to learn more about humans maybe. never the less, very fine art work
starship64
Nicely done. I wonder how one human alone will fit into the world he was reborn into.
STEVIEUKWONDER
I reckon he's been vandalising some of your beautiful classic cars, so those robots are getting their own back! lol Brilliant scene Bill. Very well thought through!

I'm sure that these 2 fellows won't tell you, just wait and see! 😄👍

Now, that would be a hellofa wake-up call! I'd faint, too!
Really well done, Bill - both artwork and story!
OmniFX
Super little story and horrorifying to learn that you are a clone from a person dead thousands of years ago and alone. Anyone would faint. Great job!
MollyFootman
Ah! An excellent Sci Fi story and the image conveys the text you shared really well. I note you used that tricky reflective panel in the wall again. I love such eye-catching details. =)

Ah, the story makes sense but the captain obviously will have trouble making it make sense. :) Good job!

Many thanks for the comment, my friend! Greatly appreciated!

I ask that same question every time I wake up in the morning.
