they grow amazingly fast

As kids we called them Grandaddy Longlegs. They smell awful when you smash them.

same here. if one gets inside and lands on your face while you sleeping, it can be a very rude awaking

I dislike them as well. In my part of the UK they are called Leatherjackets. I've no idea why. :-)

Daddy Longlegs for me, funny enough I don't mind them at all.

I don't like any kind of bug myself. Nice shot, though.

Are you sure that is not a mosquito? I see six legs and two wings and a long narrow body. My first thought was mosquito when I first saw it. Ha ha that is a mosquito guys! Great photo!
Richardphotos
I am sure, it is not a mosquito. from being so large, it would have a hard time landing on someone without an air raid going off. if you want a large salt water mosquito, check them out on the Gulf Coast. they are very aggressive and a large torso

Ok I cannot be sure; however, this insect has all the characteristics of a mosquito, six legs, wings, body shape and antenna. There are no spiders that have antenna. Whatever it is it is not a spider. If you google "largest mosquito pictures" you get what you have photographed. However, the one you have pictured is a little smaller. Still, I could be wrong.

Yeah this picture is about as close as I want to get to them

Eewww, bugs... lol!

I've seen a lot of these critters around here. They do look like a mosquito, only a LOT bigger - but enough that I'll smack 'em with whatever I have handy. They splat nicely with a big rubber band! LOL
Great shot of this one, Richard.

I have never had a bite from one or more. just such a rude awakenings when they land on your face
