I would split volumetric head-aches in any rendering engine in two, camera outside and inside the volumetric effect volume.
That holds true even for vdb/openvdb VDFs, i.e volumetric distribution functions. It is common thing to use z-depth for controlling the distribution of the volumetric effects; more advanced volumetrics might be needed though, there starts the imagination and creativity.😊💖🥰 From there to ray hit events triggering things is quite a longer walk.., and as the poet would say, the sky is the limit..😊💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
