Description

The captain watched from the bridge and his guests watched from the salon window as the divers departed. The Nautilus held station over ruins that might mark legendary Atlantis. Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered with Poser 13.0.296 and tweaked for noise reduction, exposure and spectral bloom in the Superfly Cycles X rendering engine. Taken into Photoshop for further tweaking for very subtle vignette and increased sharpness. Content features the MJ Nautilus and deep sea divers by Cybertenko and landscape (under seascape?) components by Shaaramuse3D. I continue to struggle with getting a feeling of being underwater that satisfies me. 🙄 There is another picture of this version of Captain Nemo's Nautilus here: Nautilus comes under fire

Good morning Molly, I was just online and wanted to see what you're doing, you're back at the diving station, hope you don't run out of oxygen (you've created a great underwater graphic here)!😊👍

Thank you, Ute. I like Cybertenko's take on Jules Verne's Nautilus. I'm grateful for the supportive comment!

I think your underwater look is very good. The color is right and the shadow on the ground is good and so is the surface water. This really looks good!

Your encouragement and assessment is GREATLY appreciated, Barb. I'm not sure I have the sense of "murkiness" quite right but I didn't want to obscure this wonderful content! =)

Well done Mollz - you know where to find the good assets and use them well. I like the water being shallow as it allows the details of the scene to be visible and too my limited knowledge makes sense as some of the potential sites are in subtropical shallows or shelves.

The navigation, interior and spot lights look great.

Thank you, JD! Your generous assessment and encouragement are very much appreciated! The clarity and shallowness of the ocean at this point might not be entirely realistic but it IS plausible, as you say, and I hate to go truly deep and murky and obscure wonderful content by Cybertenko and Shaaramuse3D. =)

Thank you, my dear. I love the oddball stuff that Cybertenko makes and I particularly like Victorian Steampunk stuff like this submarine. I'm still improving my ability to do underwater scenes and I let this one be a bit lighter and less murky than is strictly realistic because I wanted to see things clearly. Oh... the dilemma! To be real or to be easy to see? ;-)

Remember, water clarity is subjective to environmental conditions. I've dove in ocean water that was crystal clear for over 100', down in Roatan, Honduras. The biggest things/details that go first in water are colors and the amount of light available. It's always hard when trying to balance seeing the image and what reality may be. The details are what help with portraying what environment the subjects are in. We all want to do the best we can and that is what helps us strive to do our best. You did a really good job with the balance and the scene details drive home the believability.

That's so very helpful. I've very little experience underwater; mostly swimming pools. XD I know what photographs of reefs and wrecks and such look like and I try to imitate that but often it seems to me I'm not quite getting it. Your encouragement means a great deal to me as does your experience with how it looks to be submerged! Thank you so very much! <3
