The boys ... well, after their successful stagecoach heist, they hightailed it up to their hideout to divvy up the loot.
Feeling safe from pursuers, and assuming that the snuffing at the door was a racoon, Abe prepared to launch said racoon into flight with his boot ... and opened the door ...
