Description

A Spitfire MK Vb, separated from his squadron mates after an ariel mêlée, turns for home. This model was a freebie by Bazze, and is painted in the colours of a 303 squadron Spiftire piloted by RAF ace Janusz Żurakowski. 303 squadron had an Englishman as its commanding officer but all the other pilots were Polish, and it had the distinction of getting more kills during the Battle of Britain than any other RAF squadron, and also having fewer losses. Janusz was a Polish Air Force pilot at the start of World War II and fought the Germans over Poland for as long as he could. In spite of flying a slow and out of date fighter he managed to score one kill on a German bomber before Poland fell to the Germans. Escaping to France he joined the French Air Force and fought well until France surrendered, whereupon he escaped to Spain and then travelled to England. Janusz then joined the Royal Air Force and became a fighter ace, after which he was withdrawn from combat and assigned to train new RAF pilots. After the war was over and Poland was occupied by the Soviets Janusz did not return home, instead becoming a celebrated RAF air show display pilot and test pilot. He later moved to Canada and became a famous test pilot there, working for Avro and flying the prototypes of the famous Avro Arrow. Janusz also continued to wow the crowds at airshows when opportunity allowed. A true Polish hero, he died in 2004 at the age of 89. The image was rendered in Blender 3.6, using the Real Cloud Pro add-on from the Blender marketplace. It's a cheap add-on and makes great clouds, and has plenty of settings you can experiment with, so I might post a better version of this if playing around with the settings improves things.

Richly deserved, the man was a real patriot and dedicated to fighting Hilter's Germany. It was sad that he, like so many Poles, felt unable to return home after the war due to the Soviet subjugation of his homeland.
