I always get mad, when people accuse the cats of making some birds extinguish by hunting them!yes, they are hunting birds and yes, they are killing squirrels and mices and other smaller animals, but the real reason for extinction of a certain animal species is always the humans and their egoistic view of who has a place to live on this earth and who don't. Our way we build cities and do farming, leaves no place for other animals anymore. In Europe, probably more birds and animals are extinct, because humans took their livingspace and destroyed the environment these animals needed to find a place to live and find food than due to cats hunting them to extinction!

Please note, FurNose, that I did not claim that cats are hunting birds to extinction. I wrote that cats kill millions of birds annually, which is nothing but the truth. As for extinction, well, I wrote nothing about extinction.

Of course you didn't, if someone says that cats cause the extinction of birds is stupid, but you didn't say that. Cats can kill many birds to eat and it's absolutely normal.

Hi contedesfees! Please let me clarify my previous post. I didn't say, that you said this either (and if you understood it this way, then I apologize - it wasn't my intention), but the local Newspaper in my country do on and on. Yes, Cats kill birds (and other small animals), but they are not responsible for some species to disappear. Unfortunately - as I mentioned above - some Newspapers make this connection and tell it always and lots of people start to believe this false connection and therefore I encounter more and more cat haters, which are prepared to "decimate this pest", even if it is illegal by law. But those people tend to forget, that they belong to the species of life, which is natures biggest enemy ever. Their cubic and unnatural concrete houses and their tree- and bushless sterile gardens deprive so many animals of their soo needed habitats. The same applies to the farming, where every square meter is used and all the once so common and much needed lines of bushes, high grass and old trees along the fields where removed, just to optimize the profit. But many birds, rabbits and hedgehogs (and other animals) lost their home forever. I just think back to my youth time, where in May and June you could see lots of fireflies in the fields with high grass and thick bushes. Now they're gone, because we optimized their living space away and our permanent artificial light made it impossible for the males to find the glowing and blinking females. This is just one of many examples, that show, how we destroy nature and the living conditions for so many animals, but always point to others with our fingers and blame them (in this case the cats).for what WE are responsible for.
