Description
The Federal Agent observes Lena and Pixie as they procure a new phone for Lena.
Molly's art notes: Set up and rendered with Poser 13.0.339 using the Superfly Cycles X rendering engine. Some postwork was accomplished in Superfly and some in good ol' Photoshop. The separate images were then mounted as a graphic novel page using Comic Life 3.5.21 and are also uploaded here for those who are interested in an a view of them unobstructed by speech balloons and the like. Pixie is based on Project Evolution One and Lena upon Ali's Bela 1.2. Blackie is based on the Koji G2 variant that comes with Poser. The man in black is based upon a very old figure by Baron Vlad Harkonnen called Joshua. There are lots of other low rez figures included with Poser in the pictures as well as some generic Lo Rez figures purchased elsewhere. The setting is the work of Greenpots.
For my friends who are not English speaking the dialog follows after the break for easy use with translating software.

PANEL 1
Man in Black: So far these two will be easy to keep an eye on. I know that there's already been time to put the tracker on their vehicle. I've not seen anything like a threat to the tall one, and that's the main concern. The mall is a bit "iffy" but I'll just keep them close to me.
Jerk: Hey there, ladies! Need some company?
Pixie: Ignore, the jerk, Lena. Mall dead ahead!
PANEL 2
Lena: Ah, Capitalism! We have such in Russia, too. Had favorite Mall in St. Petersburg.
Pixie: I love this place. The pandemic nearly killed it and most suburban malls are dead but this one hangs in, and...
PANEL 3
Pixie: ...there's my phone dude. Hey, Blackie!
Blackie: Hey, Pix! Who's your good lookin' friend?
Pixie: She's a customer for you if you're not too big of a jerk about it!
Blackie: C'mon, Pix! You know me!
Pixie: Exactly!
Man in Black: (thinking) Ah. She ditched the phone she brought from Russia. Smart. Keeping her safe might be easier than we thought.
PANEL 4
Narration: Lena negotiates with Blackie for a phone that meets her specs while Pixie amuses herself window shopping.
PANEL 5
Blackie: This Librem has a Linux OS just like you want and I can max it for memory and leave it unlocked.
Lena: Is perfect. Much like one From Russia. Add cables, some SD Cards and all that's needed to connect to full size computer if needed. I'll set up service myself later.
Blackie: Excellent! I'll just bag it up and off you go!
PANEL 6
Blackie: (thinking) Wow! Pix found herself a rich hacker for a friend! Most folks don't want want or can afford anything that powerful!
Pixie: He's the best phone dude in River Heights.
Lena: Thank you Little Pix! he was perfect! Now take me to somewhere for some clothes. Then Lunch.
Pixie: (thinking) Ooh! I love to feel her touch me with such affection!
Man in Black: (thinking) We'll need to make sure that this short girl she's with is clean. She obviously trusts her and may be developing feelings. Ah well, keeps the job interesting.

The posing looks nice and natural in this one - conveys action without mime-like overages. Not easy to do....malls are indeed dying. The one I once worked in (admittedly many years ago) is on the brink of demolition - to be replaced by condos with ground levels stores. Seems to be the trend...

Thanks, JD! I do work very hard to get what seems to be a natural pose that seems a snap shot of natural movement. It takes a surprising amount of attention to detail! ;o) I miss enclosed malls and the trend to "strip malls" with a lot of parking and not much walking seems to me not a good thing. =/

Great work, the camera angels and posing are spot on. Your renders make this Mall look like it just opened, I have this too in my Runtime collecting digital cobwebs. Men in black, you think they would change it up a bit.

Thanks, my dear. I didn't mess with the textures for a more "lived in" look and as you mention it, I think I might experiment with that a bit if I use this content again. =) As for the man in black, it was too easy a trope for Federal Spooks to pass up. XD

Intrigue! Who is following them and what is phone for?

Ah! Well it's pretty clear that the dude following them is one of the Feds that want to protect Lena from the Russians that she has made it her duty to vex. The phone is to be her portable hacking tool so that she can run her network of websites from wherever she winds up if she has to go on the run.
I'm so pleased that you are following this, Annie. I know it's been going on for so long at such a slow pace it's really easy to lose track of what's going on... heck, even I get confused and I'm the author and artist. XD

I've been slow to comment, but I always really appreciate your work. Here I really like the low angle shots of the first scenes. And then that switching to framing at the level of people and then climbing up gives a sense of movement that makes me wander perfectly in the large environment of a shopping center! The thing I love most though is the little girl dancing in front of her mom on the edge of the fountain 😊

Thanks Rod! The ability to post the images from the panels separately is one of the few really cool things about the gallery format here which is otherwise a bit clunky. Thank you, Barb! I really appreciate your comment as I try to study camera angles, use of DoF and PoV in movies as my inspiration as a story teller. One day, I'll try animation if I live long enough... XD

It's good to see you exploring new storytelling formats! As already mentioned above, this requires extra dedication to assemble the panels, but it is a way to condense a lot of action into a few pages, and the story is very engaging, leaving us with doubts and wanting to know more (waiting for scenes from the next chapters). Great dialogues too!
