It's actually glass! :) They're so old that the surface has started breaking down and results in this really cool look :)

I had not thought of glass and did not realize that coating glass was technologically possible that far back.

Yeah, it's amazing how somethings seem like they should be more modern but which were actually discovered quite a long time ago :)

I wonder if the tech comes out of India. They were and may still be a producer of enamel products.

Possibly! These were found in Syria, so the designs could have originated in India
