Description

April/May 1945, it was known that the Russians were interested in occupation, not liberation and when Churchill felt that Denmark was at risk, he sent orders for the advance to be stopped. The 1st. Canadian Parachute Battalion were sent to Wismar to stop them. The Canadians passed German units along the way, but neither side fired a shot. The Canadians had orders, and they had no time to deal with the Germans. The Germans knew the war was over, and were now fighting to escape the Russian advance. They were probably relieved to see the Canadians.
