Description

For you dear Joe, I hope you like my AI image which I made especially for you! Boudicca (also spelled Boadicea and Boudica) was initially the wife of the Celtic king Prasutagus in the east of the still young Roman province of Britain. Initially, Prasutagus was allowed to continue ruling. However, when Boudicca ascended the throne after his death, the Roman rulers demanded her submission. A tribal leader was a thorn in the side of the aggressively expanding rulers, so they not only had Boudicca flogged naked in public, but also raped her to make the humiliation perfect. In a bold act of retaliation, Boudicca led some 60,000 insurgents against the invaders around 60 AD and destroyed the Roman settlements of Camulodunum (Colchester), Verulamium (St Albans) and Londinium (London) one after the other. However, Boudicca's success did not last long. Celtic military technology was too inferior. The Roman governor in Britain, Gaius Suetonius Paullinus (or Paulinus), ultimately defeated Boudicca's troops. According to the descriptions of the Roman historian Tacitus, the legendary Celt is said to have poisoned herself afterwards. The historically documented figure of Boudicca was taken up again and again from the Renaissance onwards, especially in English literature, and is still part of British pop culture today. Singer Enya has dedicated a song to her ("Boadicea"), as have the Libertines ("The Good Old Days"). Thank's for your visit, I wish you all a nice Sunday evening! Prompt not available!

Thank you so much for the generous dedication. This is a really lovely work. I love the calm of the blue palate you have chosen and the serene expression on her face, a unique portrayal of someone who is more usually shown as consumed with anger (as my own depiction did a couple of years ago now!) ... I also like the the resemblance to Enya herself here, an elegantly subtle gesture to a great musician... πŸ˜€

Very nice. Boudicca's defeat was so one sided as to be tragic - as much a result of good troop placement and disciple/tactics as a lack of technology, though Roman armor did provide a significant defensive edge. Had the Celts been in the woods and the Romans in marching order, it could have been another Teutoborg Forest...
