Hey there. I got into the 3d realm a few years ago using AutoCAD R15 in school - produced my pen image with that program in 3 days, rendered it in 4 hours or some BS like that... I've acquired 3DS only recently, so I'm still learning.

The area light samples could do with being a little higher and caustics?...I don't actually see that many (except maybe at the base of the cube on the right or is that glossy reflection?)...try increasing the photon multiplier, increasing the amount of photons and playing with the search radius - is this possible in the free release version?

Interesting composition on this scene. Some DOF might make the scene feel more like a photo. =)
