Description

After the destruction of the state and city of Athens 480 b.C., and victory at last, the citizens decided to build the statue as a symbol of their wealth and prominent position in the greece lega. It was impressive 12 metres high, inwards of cedar wood and outwards ornamented with gold. It was build in a more formal style, just for demonstrating the power granted by wealth, skill and wisdom of the Athenians, but was lost during the first millenium. Its temple (Parthenon) survived much longer, but was hit by explosives in the War against Venice 1650, and ransacked then by british Lord Elgin. Sic transit gloria mundi! But she lives on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSbjz4uCwAE TerraMoore - always worth a look - was faster than I was: https://www.renderosity.com/gallery/items/3130356/temple-of-athena-model Update: I recently learned, that there is a replica of the Parthenon and Statue in ... Nashville/ Tennesee: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenon_(Nashville) You can visit the impressive Building there in full Height and Grandeur!

Good to hear that, that was the intended impression. thank You. (Personally I like these overloaded form, build to impress, not that as beautiful as"Athena lernai e.g. ...)

Thanks TerraMoore, but to mention Your work is well deserved, because it makes this Gall MUCH more interesting and guarantees more "variety"! Every Museum would feel blessed, if it had Your virtual Collections! Keep up the good work, please!
