Description
After the destruction of the state and city of Athens 480 b.C., and victory at last, the citizens decided to build the statue as a symbol of their wealth and prominent position in the greece lega. It was impressive 12 metres high, inwards of cedar wood and outwards ornamented with gold.
It was build in a more formal style, just for demonstrating the power granted by wealth, skill and wisdom of the Athenians, but was lost during the first millenium. Its temple (Parthenon) survived much longer, but was hit by explosives in the War against Venice 1650, and ransacked then by british Lord Elgin.
