I think, we have to be patient with them! They are like kids, that never grow up and are given in our hands completly. We owe them a lot of indulgence and care, because they are not free to choose! Practically speaking and to be helpful: Feed him more fibre, so he feels fed up, but looses weight, hopefully! :/ Sorry to be cheeky! :)

He needs to eat only hypoallergenic food. He's getting fat now because last year he was neutered due to tumors he had there.

Sorry to hear that! But a good thought is, that You carry the weight of fate with him! Honest Respect! (The hypoallergenic food explains the bad temper. ;)

My Dog died on Leucemia three Years ago, his Hormone-balance was also a Mess, and he grew to a baloon. What helped a bit was a hint of the Veterinarian to give him Ashwagandha (Phytolacca indica), that balances Hormones and gives Peace and good Sleep (8 mg/ kg, ca. a tip of a Tea-Spoon on 10 kg). its a non-toxic Relative of Your P. americana! Maybe this is useful?! All the best! :)

Yes, in every Case that is sad. Thanks for beeing compassionat! But thats another Story. :/

I would be glad, if You keep the Ashwagandha in Mind and think about it. In my experience it was a great help to avoid secundary Inflictions with the joints and fatty acid metabolism! :)
