There's a familiar sight for sure. My great-grandmother had one of those, also some of the same type of chairs. Can remember going there many a time when I was a youngster and my great aunts and uncles and grandpa were all still around. More than once did I have my school uniforms properly hemmed on great-gran's reliable old Singer. Thanks for the memories. :-)

Reliable for sure; may not be as fancy as modern ones, but they sure are sturdy little machines. ;) Really cool that your great gran's was put to good use :)

It did indeed get a lot of good use. My great uncle Jack kept using it up until he got sick and had to go into a care home some time in the late 1980s-early 1990s. That man had very little schooling but was self taught in many things, among them tailoring, and did it well enough to put some professionals in the area to shame. Didn't do it for pay, though, mostly as exchanged favours for friends & family or the occasional few dollars to pay for materials. They don't make 'em like that any more.

That's for sure. Most appliances breakdown after a few years now. Definitely not something you could pass along to different generations.
