Description
~Eat Your Veggies~
An exercise in making characters hold objects with a double-dose of ControlNet: one for the pose, and one for the cucumber mask. Made the pose in Poser with my OpenPose plugin, giving full fingers on the right hand to get a perfect hand and pose. The 3D cucumber mask on the 2nd ControlNet layer places the object at the right place, shape, and size, matching the hand pose. Having the scene in 3D makes it easy to quickly isolate the parts to create the mask. Pose and camera work done in Poser, rendered in Stable Diffusion, postwork in Paintshop.

Your description of the hand pose reads like still being quite some effort to fiddle around. I've seen so many people selling their (hand) poses and many of them didn't even look naturally. The weird thing is that I often couldn't exactly tell myself why they didn't.
Looking now at this hand (and the cucumber in it) I can see clearly what was wrong with the other poses: She's (of course) holding with her finger tips and not in a fist! Good work!

This has used the same technique I have used in my other post with the girl holding a baseball bat over her shoulder. It would be impossible to keep the hand or even the bat in 1-piece without a 2nd dedicated mask layer in ControlNet. I have the scene in 3D, so it's quick and easy to make the mask by isolating the parts I want. I didn't have a 3D cucumber, so I used a banana, where the general shape was the same. ^____^

Another real breakthrough. The ability to have the different masks gives so much more control and variety to the artist. Way to go, my friend.

Thank you! It's really amazing what we can do once we learn the tools, and I am not even using 5% of what ControlNet can do. I have my sights on ControlNet's IP-Adapter next, where we can keep character consistency over time without having to train or even use custom LoRAs. ^____^
