Description
Navarre was moving cautiously, but swiftly through the narrow passages of the station; making his way back to the launch bay.
He could hear voices and footfalls from the end of the passage he had just exited. It was a bit of a surprise when the pilot stepped into an intersection before him.
He was preparing to take out the man, when the Pilot grinned.
"Just in the nick of time." His deep voice was filled with delight. "You heading to the station, Lumper?"
Navarre knew the common slang for laborer, and nodded curtly, trying to look as haggard and down beaten as all the others he had seen aboard the station.
"Whut bout, Pilot?" He slung his words.
"We'll get you to the station sooner, we need another set of hands loading the last few crates to stay on schedule You up for it?"
"Oh hell yes!" Navarre grinned as stupidly as he could.
The Pilot stood motionless and silent for a moment, as if he were rethinking the offer for a moment, then slowly nodded.
"All you have to do is carry the crates inside the hold and stack them." He made a sweeping motion with his arm. "Follow me."
Navarre rolled his eyes as he stepped into line behind the pilot and followed him to an adjacent docking port.

Maybe he shouldn't sound so enthusiastic ... the 'lumpers' are probably more world-weary? Another intriguing twist!
