Description

This is my first time-consuming Genesis 9 test. Moxing is a lovely character, but I'm not impressed with Genesis 9 or the bizarre, erratic and disruptive behavior of the new version of Daz Studio which supports Genesis 9 (but does NOT support the Face Transfer 2 that Daz already sold me - yet). No wonder the Daz Store has been blowing out Genesis 9 content throughout their holiday sale. They're trying to lure/force you into a passive commitment to G9 based on the low sales price of content, rather than the quality of Genesis 9 itself. Hopefully the clever vendors at Renderosity will once again show the Daz Store's tedious content mill how its done, by creating content that looks anything at all like Daz's marketing examples. My recommendation is to use that holiday sale opportunity to complete your older Genesis content libraries, while sending a message to Daz that you don't want G9 if it looks worse than G8, offers about as much character realism as South Park, and is filled with truly unfathomable bugs that disrupt your workflow and force you to work differently using G9 than you do with V/G/G2/G3/G8/G8.1 Moxing loaded quickly because I have very little Genesis 9 content. But with all the bugs in the latest Daz studio this took twice as long to set up as a G3 or G8 character would have. For example, click on the bell around her neck (that collar is for G9 - and Moxing, the hair and clothes are also G9). Then try to rotate the bell with respect to the collar as it would in the real world. It rotates around the wider, lower EDGE of the bell, instead, disconnecting the bell from the collar altogether and rotating it AWAY from the collar. That isn't just sloppy, a lack of testing and poor quality control. It is simply inexcusable. Even using the simple background plane and a very simple scene (which normally render fast), I had to shut down this render after 8 hours, at only 64% complete, apparently all because of the minimal G9 contributions. To me, if you disregard Daz's marketing materials, many Genesis 9 characters look like soft and doughy versions of their G3 and G8 (and even V4) counterparts. Talk about 8k all day, and some G9 characters are quite handsome, but they don't look as realistic to me when you actually render them yourself using a video card that mere mortals can afford. Let me know how real Moxing looks to you here in the comments. I'll take responsibility for part of the deficiency, since I'm not a rendering master. But I'm not seeing how this result after a lot of effort justifies building yet another expensive Genesis version library. There's nothing fundamentally better about G9's images for anyone with a sub-$2000 graphics card. Put your money into content for the versions that have worked well for you in the past instead. Or at least get your G9 stuff at Renderosity and other third party sites to compel the Daz Store to finally begin demonstrating some business ethics. Since the Daz Store is fond of censoring my criticisms so that nobody will ever hear them, learn from them, or consider them, we'll see how Daz gets away with censoring this commentary on a different website. Thanks for looking at my Moxing, and for reading my comments!

Thank you for the detailed report on the G9 issue. I had the impression that something was wrong, but, being completely ignorant of 3D graphics, I thought it was my fault 🙁. (unfortunately I cannot support any type of product or manufacturer because... 🥵 I ran out of m...y in 2021) However, your images are always very beautiful and, knowing that you had to fight against inefficiencies and various bugs, they are even more precious! 🥰🥰

Hi Marini! From what I understand the difference between Daz's marketing promos and reality has something to do with the 4k vs 8k maps, though I don't understand it completely. I think it is possible to get that detail, but only if the vendor supports it maybe...? In any event, I hope I can help people save money by encouraging them to just stick with previous Genesis versions for now. I did get many G9 hairs really cheap though, in the hopes that a converter will come along so I can use that hair with Genesis 8 later :). I will say that the G9 hairs seem to be a bit fluffier. Thank you as always for leaving your comments!
