Jeanne d'Arc was a training ship from the '30ies to the '50ies. It survived ww2 because it was in Martinique when war broke out.

Very well done! In the officer's club entryway of the military base in Toulon, there is (was? Haven't been there in 30 years) an art-decoish 30's painted mural of such a cruiser at the edge of a jungle estuary, bow on, with a native looking at it from under some palm leaves.
