Description

A rip-off of an antiquarian fake, 'Nymph with a Shell,' once featured in a painting celebrating the inception of the second voyage of the British treasure hunter Captain James Cook. That voyage would be the British Royal Navy's second attempt to uncover and claim for Britain all the resources and wealth of the fabled Great South Land. Alas the painting's commissioning was premature. The ambitious naturalist Joseph Banks demanded too many modifications to the vessel and was ejected from the treasure hunt. So, the embarassing painting was sidelined and forgotten for over a century. Perhaps that was not the only cover-up involving The Raiders of Ark Down-Under. In this scene, as investigators close in, the most secret of the secret orders is destroyed as a British Stately Home goes up in flames. The 3D model of the original fake comes free, courtesy of the Louvre website.
