Description

Something different this time, a photo of a mosquito in our garden. More interested in flowers and water than people. He/she's quite a big fella - about 2cm (or ¾", or about the width of my index finger) from the 90 degree bend in the proboscis to the tip of its abdomen. I've been catching these for years, when they get into the house, using a metal sieve/strainer and a sheet of card and then releasing them outside because I'm fairly sure that it's an 'elephant mosquito', one of the Toxorhynchites species. One of the good guys. Taken with my 12 year old Canon Powershot A510. I used the P setting, no flash, widest FOV, macro (MF), and the lens was only a couple of inches from the subject - this is the best of maybe half a dozen shots.
