The elves must have developed an excellent rust-preventative during their long reign, or perhaps their great metallurgical skills have perfected a more advanced form of stainless steel or resistant plating or something. They posess great design skills as well since you wouldn't want to go swimming in a head-to-toe full plate and chain get-up, now would you? Heavy jousting armor? No, that's not gonna fly. Something light and breezy for mi'lady perhaps.....
