This is a close approximation (the S-shield is too big and too low, but you work with what you have) of the costume Supergirl wore in the comics between 1983 and 1985. During this time, she was in her early 20s. I'm not sure if the comics version inspired Helen Slater's costume from the 1984 Supergirl movie or vice versa. The costume is probably best known from the iconic cover of Crisis on Infinite Earths #7, featuring the death of Supergirl (which was not a dream, not a hoax, not an imaginary story).
