Description

A compositing between a Terragen landscape and a Lightwave Hypervoxel cloud. Post processed volcano cloud reflection on the water and shadow on the mountain. This is a test image, just to learn and improve various blending/compositing tecnique Your feedback about the overall "photorealism feel" is greatly appreciated.

Wonderful postwork! maybe the eruptive cloud seems to be nearest that the volcano, but impressive picture..

Hi Christianfly. Thanks for your opinion. I will fade the volcano cloud slighty more with the sky, to improve the distance.

try to set the eruption with the help of layers into the "hole". but looks great so far, go on with it

Overall an excellent job. On the subject of realism, Christian captured the obvious. Allthough well done, I'm not sure the reflection of the smoke cloud would be so clear. I don't know about that one. Also, just a question to those who may know, is'nt this the terrain of Mont St-Helens After the eruption? It would look more real if it was the terrain of it before ince the pic is the initial explosion. I have seen terrain file of the mountain before the explosion before. Excellent!

Very good idea: this is great blending/compositing tecnique. Agree with the above said and just have one minor thing (that I am not even sure about, but anyway): I noticed that you even remembered the shadows the cloud cast on the mountain, but would those shadows not resemble shadow darkness/coloring of the other shadows on the mountain (in this case a bit more blue/grey than black. Just an idea. Excellent picture :-)

That is just WAAAY KEWL! I especially like (and how did you do it?) the effect of getting it to appear in the lake as well.

Really impressive merge between these two programs - an excellent image

Thanks to all of you for the useful feedback. I will try to fix the image using your guidelines. The Hypervoxel cloud water reflection is a postprocessing in Photoshop (cloud layer duplicated, vertical mirror and 50% overlay). After testing that a "almost photoreal" compositing is possible, I will try to do some other massive volcano explosion !

This eruption is f***** realistic. You obly forgot to add the same atmospheric blue in the overlay, which makes it more black in the shadows. And I think you'd better make a 4:3 image so that you don't have to do the water reflection.

agree with christianfly but this is an excellent work anyway

I think, the eruption is a bit too... "friendly". There should be some more dark smoke around the crater and the volcano at all. Nevertheless, really excellent postwork and idea.

yeah, great picture. nearly perfect realism. but like xr666 wrote, the eruption will be looking cooler, if it comes from inside the mountain. my special favourite is the water reflection, great work!!!
