Looks kind of like it's got holes punched at the sides. I wonder if it was originally for birds - the bottom part looks pecked to death! How did you find that amongst the branches? 💚

Yes, you're probably right, might have been to feed the birds at one point. It's hanging on a tree branch but near the trail so I spotted the red lid and then noticed the rest :)
