I really love what you do with lighting. Softboxes are a very weak point for me, so I love seeing how you create and use them 💜

Hah! They were The Standard Light in my real world studio. Basically, the big deal is that the larger the light source (relative to the subject), the softer the light, meaning that it begins to wrap around corners and edges. And skin imperfections. Makes sense when you think of the light as effectively coming from many, many, many point light sources. Where one point source casts a shadow, the other tend to fill it.
An area light in poser does the same thing. Except -- I chose to have be visible in the render. So it's basically a flattened cube with one surface turned into a tunable light source.
