Description
Many Christian traditions have their roots in pagan culture, and probably none more than easter, named after the fertility goddess Ēostre who features in ancient Germanic, Saxon and Old English lore, as well as modern paganism. The name of the holiday derives via the Saxon/Old English Ēosturmōnaþ (Eastermonth), as the 8th Century historian Bede recorded in his work "De mensibus Anglorum". Its probably also where the easter bunny comes from, as one of the animals associated with her is the hare, as are the springtime colours of green yellow and purple...

Many Christian holidays were/are scheduled around pagan holidays, it was the way the early Christian churches would entice the pagans to convert.
