~Catra~ From DreamWorks Animation studios came a new 2018 "She-RA and the Princess of Power" TV series that ended up with 52 episodes over 5 seasons, distributed by Netflix. I liked it, BUT... Adora was NOT my favorite character. This series has introduced a new character called Catra, a catgirl who has everything: she's cocky, witty, sassy, laid back, and mischievous. She has claws, and she's not afraid to use them! Catra also has heterochromia - something quite common in Japanese animation, but rarely ever seen in western animation. She has no specific race to justify her feline treats - she's a catgirl, deal with it! Love it! 🥰 From the beginning, I was curious for WHY did they draw her with such angular lines, since that's a masculine trait. She can be a tomboy at times, but I don't think that defines her character. Nonetheless, they started giving hints more towards the later seasons that made me go: "Oh, that's why!". Or more like: "Oh no! That's why!". I am not judging the writers, but they started giving all sorts of signals towards the end, and it somehow ruined it for me - not to mention I believe that's totally unsuited for children. But that's what they went for. Nonetheless, it makes sense they have invested so much effort in developing her character, because Catra has played all the roles in this series: the victim, the damsel, the hero, the leader, and the villain! Not something we see everyday. As opposed to most 1-sided western cartoon characters, Catra had a complex personality, where we cared for her even when she was evil. It was a story that delved into the dangers of brainwashing, indoctrination and explored different perspectives, giving the characters a believable (and dramatic) motivation for their actions. At least on my perspective, Catra was the protagonist in this series. I didn't care much for Adora, since she already had everything. It was Catra who started as a little kitten who had nothing, and crossed the entire "Hero's Journey" from beginning to end. Granted - anyone who has seen my gallery knows I am obviously biased towards catgirls (duh!), but still, it was Catra who had a bigger arch in the series. We saw her darkest times, but also her tender moments, making Adora look rather shallow in comparison. However, the writing just used her as a plot device for Adora's events to unfold. But if you ask me, forget She-RA! Catra has enough merit and character development to run a series of her own! 😀 So hats off to DreamWorks Animation studios for coming up with Catra - a character who stole the show from Adora, and made it her own - at least to me! 😁 This time I wasn't getting what I wanted from SD-1.5, so I switched to SDXL, and gosh, it went straight to the point! I don't exactly "love" SDXL, since it was a disaster in the beginning, but it's definitely getting there by now. 3D pose and camera set in Poser with my OpenPose plugin, rendered in Stable Diffusion, postwork in PaintShop.
