"So, when we heard that you've been known to organize book clubs before, we were so thrilled!..." she beamed at her daughters, "Weren't we girls?" Five pairs of eyes look at her like she just grew horns. "Ergo," the mother said without skipping a beat, "We hope you can do the same of us. They really need the practice, you know, what with us just moving here and all." "Your English is perfect, if I may say so Mrs Kim," I complemented her, "And I'm not just being nice here." "Well, now..." She gushed, "Anyway, about that book club..?" I looked around the room, not really reading the same level of enthusiasm the mother was displaying. "I certainly don't mind, if your girls are up to - " "That's wonderful! I'll leave you and the girls to discuss the details." And like a whirlwind, she was out of the room, leaving me somewhat high and dry. The five pair of eyes slowly turn to me. "So, umm - " My arms suddenly felt like they're too big, and awkward. I waved them about, not quite sure what to do with them. "This sounds fun, doesn't it?" Five pairs of pretty eyes look at me like it has all the fun of watching paint dry. "Yippee." Someone muttered. "Okay let's try this," I said, rubbing my hands, "We'll do this for a month. You can choose any book you want, and if it doesn't work out at the end, I'll talk to your mum about it." The five pair of eyes glanced at each other, and nodded. I guess there is some truth in twins, or quintuplets in this case, being able to communicate telepathically. "Okay, we try," the first girl said. "Just a month," the second girl piped up. "We choose book," the third girl added. "Un-negotiable," the fourth girl emphasized, holding a slim finger up. "Non-negotiable," I said, "But I get it, don't worry." "We read this book," the fifth pushed a book into my hands. For some reason I felt that I was getting played out here, because all of sudden the mood was, for the lack of a better word, electric. But never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? "Glad to see you're all so motivated," I smiled warmly, as I turn over the book. My face turned white and I was momentarily seized by a coughing fit. Dakota Johnson's intense and alluring eyes seize me under the embossed title of the book. Fifty Shades of Grey? I blinked. In a book club? With quintuplets? I slowly sat down. I don't know, maybe I was expecting Peppa Pig or something. Five pairs of eyes studied me intensely. "Friend say, good book. Fantasy book," the first girl said, "Me likes fantasy." "Fantasy, fantasy..." I cleared by throat, "Mmm, well it does involve some...kind of fantasy...I suppose." "I like magic," the second girl was sitting on the edge of her seat, "Book about magic, right?" "Yeah, yeah,....It's, well, quite magical...for some of the people involved," I stammered, feeling hot under the collars. "Broadly speaking." "I likes books that," the third girl struggled, but clearly wanted to join in, "allow me to...find new me...a different me." I looked at her pretty face, and nodded, "Again, yes, there's that too...in here," I indicated the book, "a journey to discovering something new about yourself." The girl beamed, and I felt even more at a loss. "So, we agree?" The fourth girl said. It was more a statement than a question. I sighed and looked out the window.
