Description

In adding a third species to my Grasshopper base set, it made sense that I should throw in a locust... For the composition of the art, a "coming directly at you" approach seemed appropriate. The Migratory Locust occurs throughout Africa, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. It used to be common in Europe, but has now is rarely reported. A group/swarm of locust is referred to as a "plague". As expected, it is a crop pest. In Africa, the last serious widespread plague of this locust occurred from 1928 to 1942. Since then, environmental transformations have made the development of swarms from the African migratory locust unlikely. Nevertheless, potential outbreaks are constantly monitored as plagues can be devastating.
