2nd place in 2024 Writers Contest You wake up inside of a maze of thorns. The walls stretch high above your head, at least fifteen feet high. The way behind you is sealed. Two paths stretch to either side of you. Do you take the right path, which quickly bends around another corner? Or do you take the left path, a sloping path that is slightly obscured by shadow? [Left/Right] FORWARD_ Invalid option. You must choose a direction. BACK_ You can't go back. You can only go left or right. UP_ That is an invalid option. You can only go le- CLIMB_ Climbing is not an option; the hedges are made up of sharp, poisonous thorns. You must go either left or- JUMP OVER_ The walls are over fifteen feet high! You can’t just jump over- JUMP HIGHER_ That doesn’t work. JUMP HIGHER_ Even if you jump higher, you can’t clear fifteen feet! You have to- JUMP HIGHER_ Listen! Left or right! Those are your only two- JUMPHIGHERJUMPHIGHERJUMPHIGHERJUMPHIGHER_ Fine! You jump higher and higher. In fact, you keep jumping until you pass out from exhaustion.
