Description
Antonín Dvořák is probably best know for his cello concerto (frequently listed amongst the greatest, if not THE greatest concerto of all time, a view with which I'm in absolute agreement) and his 9th Symphony (The New World) that has featured in innumerable ads, TV programs and movies.
He has been described as the most versatile composer of his time. He frequently employed rhythms and other aspects of the folk music, both of his native Bohemia and further afield. His use of traditional idioms is perhaps best illustrated in his symphonic tone poems, several of which were based on ballads by the Czech folklorist Karel Jaromir Erben. The first of these, Op. 107, is entitled "Vodník", originally translated into English as "The Water-Fay"...

Beautiful fantasy render, Joe, with just a little hint of... evil? That look on her face is just slightly askew from the tranquil scene and makes you wonder what might happen next. Wonderful work :)

Erben's story is actually pretty dark, and while this isnt a direct illustration of it, i did want the character to have a hint of menace.

I'm sure Dvorak would have loved this superb image. Even if I'm not great fan of his slavonic dances (heard everywhere...shops, elevators,etc...) I, like you, always give his cello concerto a listen with great pleasure.
