Description
Captain Flynt was starting to feel strangely uncomfortable, but before he could figure out what they should do next a young man dressed in black suddenly snuck-up on them out of nowhere and spoke in that same odd accent, "This way, follow me." Flynt and his team followed the man to another chamber nearby where another group of inhabitants were chatting; then all six of them looked at Flynt and went silent.
A moment later one of the women grinned and Flynt heard her say, "Look, fresh supper has arrived."
Flynt's blood ran cold. Dormant memories suddenly popped into his head, frightening old stories -- tales of night creatures, unstoppable beasts in human form that hunt and kill, stories he was never quite sure if they were fact or fiction. He slowly turned to his security officer, "Niko, we need to get out of here. Don't do anything rash ... stay very calm and cool."
But before Niko could respond, they were surrounded by all of them, with a different female calmly saying, "Don not be afraid, we just want to have you for dinner."
The rest of the team cought on to the dire situation and their faces turned pale with fright. Flynt was aware of the hand blasters that he and Niko carried which could take down an elephant, but if those stories were even half true they didn't stand a chance.
Then, just as total panic was about to set in, the creepy inhabitants all burst into laughter, "We were just joking with you! We haven't eaten a human in centuries. Please come, let us go meet some of the others. We would all love to hear your stories, your adventures. And tell us about Earth; is it still in one piece or have you blown it up?"

deserves a full zoom...this is a wonderful series (and your latest--aug 5th,the pic of the castle itself--is beautiful, almost like an ice casle or something carved out of some sublime soap, with sinewy gothic lines and layer upon layer)...
in this piece, everyone has turned to look at the viewer at once (it reminds me of Rembrandt's "Syndics of the Drapers Guild," where everyone looks up simultaneously to acknowledge the viewer), only here the stares are sinister and deliciously daring. Everyone's in black, it's mostly women, and it's in a dark gothic hall. Love the trees on the right-most wall, a wonderful part of the design...accdg to your tale they wind up revealing their joke at the end, so these stares are great cover-ups. They work! You use red finely as contrast (in the fruits and on occasioal piece of fabric), and the mood is 100% medieval (mysterious, inviting and haunting). Fine work, and the light is pure old-chiaroscuro mixed with 21st C horror flick, or a kind of medieval 'film noir' if there was ever such a thing. Dark, sinister and delicious.
