Description

Grinder and Coola, two orphan bears rescued in 2001 when there were no rehabilitation centres in the area. Though these bears will never be able to be released, they are wild, humans never enter the enclosure with them. They have 5.5 acres of natural habitat, and what humans have learned from observing them has advanced conservation and rehabilitation efforts. Now quite senior, these bears live a pretty decent life atop Grouse Mountain. The one with grey highlights is the smaller, an inland grizzly (~700lbs normal weight) but is always the instigator of trouble and enjoys playing with logs in the pond. Coola, a coastal grizzly (about 800lbs normal weight) enjoys relaxing: in the sun, forest, pool, or where ever.
