Description

~Power Girl~ The story behind this DC comics character is amusing - can a gal be busty? She was designed by Jerry Conway and Rick Estrada as a feminist activist back in 1976, and yet, she wears a provocative uniform. She is Superman's cousin from a parallel universe, but when Krypton exploded, her escape rocket went to a different planet (Earth-2). She shares her name with Supergirl (Kara Zor-El), but is older and more experienced. She was originally claimed to be a Kryptonian survivor, but details varied to confusing levels, up to a point where she was not Kryptonian or even related to Superman. Her origin story has been subject to multiple rewrites and reboots, leading to confusion and frustration among fans. These inconsistencies have impacted the character's development and overall reception. Still in 1976, artist Wally Wood, famous for his sexy work, was in charge of drawing Power Girl at DC comics, where there is an alleged story where Wood intentionally increased the size of Power Girl's boobs in every issue to see how long it would take for someone from editorial to say something. This led to a debate about the costume, with some people arguing that it was sexist and others saying that it was empowering. Her iconic busty figure with a chest keyhole has been the subject of endless controversies and uniform redesigns over the years - sometimes even between pages of the same comics! In one occasion, Power Girl justified showing up her ample cleavage by claiming (canon) that this is how she is, so if men want to drool all over it, so be it. In another (canon) occasion, she confesses to Superman that the hole was supposed to be a place for a logo design (like his) that never came true, so it remained a hole. Conway mentioned on Twitter that the iconic chest hole was always a critical part of her costume. He said "the chest hole was intended as a nod to convention without being conventional." Ironically, no matter how many censored outfits she had over the last 4 decades, the current version with the revealing keyhole is actually her original one from 1976. This means Power Girl took almost 50 years to earn the right to wear her original canon outfit due to generalized censorship. A lesson to behold. 3D pose and camera set in Poser, exported with my OpenPose plugin, rendered in Stable Diffusion, postwork in PaintShop.

And Wonder Woman with her armbands and lasso was a bondage fetish. You get away in comics what you cannot get away with in other stories. Fantastic render.

Thank you! In the end, Power Girl got her original 1976 design back, but it took nearly 50 years. Boob have become such a taboo that nearly all movie actresses have been completely flat-chested for the last decade or so. That's why I picked Power Girl - she has been a symbol for women's right to have breasts and be fine with it. How did things get to this?
