Description
I've mentioned 'difficult' and 'easy' claw machines, suggesting to avoid the difficult ones if possible. But what did I mean by that?
As mentioned briefly earlier, a prize too good to be true such as the ones with those large plushies in the picture in the large claw machines aren't easy to win. But what about the regular sized claw machines? Aren't they all the same?
Well yes and no. The shape and size of the item in the claw machine makes a big difference in how difficult it is to win.
While playing at OHYO I quickly started to notice the following:
1) Toys with large heads and small bodies had a high chance of slipping out of the claw. When the claw closes around the toy, because they are top heavy, the head pulls the body right out the claw's grasp. If you are trying to get one of these, you're best to target the head, but it often ends up closing partly on the head and the body and thus the slip out. These are a lot harder to win.
2) Toys that were long/tall were also harder. While the claw gripped well on them, being long/tall, it made the claw less balanced and it tended to cause the claw to rock back and forth as it moved back towards the chute meaning it was more likely to fling your toy away from the chute instead of dropping it into it. Not as difficult to win as the ones with huge heads and tiny bodies but again more difficult.
3) Some of the toys also had protruding limbs - take the duck for instance. There was a cute white duck toy that was longer in shape (so already more difficult because of that), but also had these legs and wings sticking out. One of my friends across got it dropped directly on the chute - only to have it cling with its wings and feet on the edge. She actually had to put in four more tokens to use the claw to push the toy down the chute as it was clinging on and refused to let go without a push. So keep in mind and eye out for that as well as it could hinder its ability to go down the chute.
4) The best toys to go for were the ones that were well balanced in shape and weren't too big or too small for the claw. In fact, the most perfect toy when I was there was the cake slice. The one claw machine had these cake slices and milk carton plushies that had the Cinnamoroll character on it. It was the first claw machine I tried at OHYO (and in my life). I tried to get the cake slice and - got it in first try! In fact it was the first one any of us got and enforced our confidence :D The cake slice was three sided and even in shape. The claws in the machine are three claw machines so it grasped it perfectly. Later on when I went around to other machines I went back to the machine and tried to get the milk carton one - and again got it in first try! Wasn't as perfect of gripe as the cake slice but VERY close to it. So in general, I found those two the absolute easiest ones to go for when I was there (they were cute too!)
And my advice doesn't end here...more to come!

I like the Pac-Man machine in my living room, it doesn't cost me a quarter to play.

This is the first time I actually played in one of these claw machine arcades. Before that, I think maybe once or twice in the past at any arcade.
